Problem: Stuttering/Choppy audio and video playback. The sound produced presents like the song has reached the end of the buffer and is having to load. It's a very jumpy, popping and cracking sound. In chatrooms, the problem may be either music cutting out constantly while listening to others, or distortion in your audio while you perform (commonly referred to as "aliens" or "popcorn").
This issue first appeared with the release of Flash Player version 11.2 in March, 2012.
To check what version of Flash Player you have, simply right click on a SingSnap recorder or player, or on the chat room. You will get a popup box, with the last line showing a version number. If it is version 11.2 or higher, you may need to revert back to version 11.1 to solve your problems.
Below are the instructions for reverting to Flash 11.1:
It is recommended to read these instructions fully before beginning (or even better, print them). Then download the necessary files from the links provided, and SAVE the files to your desktop or documents, or somewhere you can easily find them (don't choose "run" if prompted when you click the link). Then follow the instructions to downgrade Flash.
1)
Uninstall Flash Player 11.2 from your system with the Adobe Uninstaller:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
2) REBOOT THE COMPUTER!!! This is important, and it is also the reason you should go ahead and have the installer from the next step downloaded beforehand, as you may lose this page while rebooting.
3) Download the correct Flash Player 11.1 installer for your system and browser from the links below:
Windows - Internet Explorer:
http://songs.singsnap.com/flash/downloads/flashplayer11_1r102_63_winax_32bit.exe
Windows - Firefox, Chrome*, Safari:
http://songs.singsnap.com/flash/downloads/flashplayer11_1r102_63_win_32bit.exe
4) Once you've uninstalled Flash and rebooted, double click the file from step 3 to start the installer. This will install Flash Player Version 11.1.102.63 on your system.
After doing this you'll want to avoid updating if Adobe prompts you. Once Adobe corrects the issue, or we have a better solution, we'll update you here.
If you have any questions or trouble or if you're running a Mac you can message us from the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of any SingSnap page for more help.
* Chrome requires additional steps to use Flash Player 11.1 due to the preinstalled Flash Player that is bundled with the Chrome browser. We recommend using another browser for recording until Adobe is able to release a fix. If you wish to use Flash 11.1 on Chrome you can find more information about disabling Chromes built in Flash Player by searching Google.
Another issue that some users may experience is because of Flash permissions. The following should help you allow permissions. There was a bug in Flash 10.3 (and it's been popping up in other versions too) that caused issues with allowing permissions.
1. Open the SingSnap recorder or a saved song.
2. Right mouse click on the recorder or song player.
3. In the menu that opens click on "Global Settings..."
4. A new window should open.
5. Click on the "Camera and Mic" tab at the top of the new window.
5. Click on the "Camera and Microphone Setting by Site..." button.
6. Locate and click "songs.singsnap.com" in the list of websites.
7. Below the list of sites make sure "Allow" is selected in the drop down list.
8. Locate and click "userplane.com" in the list of websites. (this address applies to chatrooms)
9. Again, make sure "Allow" is selected in the drop down list.
10. Close both windows and try to record again, or try using your audio in chat again.
